Zora Lee Marcum

March 31, 1949 — November 10, 2023

Zora “Zorro” Lee Marcum, 74 of Hulen, KY made his journey home on November 10, 2023, at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born in Mill Creek in Harlan County on March 31, 1949, the baby boy of the late Starlin and Edna Taylor Marcum. He believed in the Holiness Faith and served the Lord for 48 years. An avid reader he earned great knowledge of the Bible that he sought out through reading and prayer. Zora loved to talk about his experiences with the Lord. He had been an owner, operator and foreman in the coal mines and was also a Master Logger. He worked many years to provide for his family. His family was his life and he loved them beyond measure. His children and grandchildren were his heart and he reminded them often how proud he was of them. Zora also enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, and digging ginseng.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Marcum, Jasper Marcum, and Tommy Marcum; sisters, Loretta Marcum Peace, Jennie Fay Marcum Sexton, and Blanche Marcum Saylor; brother-in-law, Nathaniel “Junior” Snelling, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Sarah Alice Snellings, Wilma Snellings, and Elizabeth Snellings; and mother-in-law, Bertha Wilder Jackson.


Zora is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dora “Angie” Snellings Marcum; children, Thomas Lee Marcum and wife, Robin and Angela Starr “Starbaby” Metcalfe and husband, Chris; grandchildren, referred to as “The Grands”, Thomas “Tom Tom” Marcum and fiancé, Brittany King, Kathryn “Katie” Metcalfe, Brooklyn Metcalfe and Christopher Metcalfe; brother, George Kelly and wife, Charlene; brother-in-law, George Snellings and wife, Dinah; sisters-in-law, Melissa “Lisa” Snellings, Laura Parham and husband, Harold and Nona Kay Towles; special friends, Ronnie Oplinger, Tony Ealy, and Tom Elliott; and a host of special nieces, nephews, and friends he loved dearly.


Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Alva Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ronnie Oplinger presiding. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
