Wilmer Day

Wilmer Day, of Pineville, KY, passed away at Middlesboro ARH on November 24, 2018. He was 90 years old. Mr. Day was born on January 16, 1928 in Bledsoe, KY to his parents, Abner and Zelphia (Huff) Day. He married Mossie Katherine Harris on August 1, 1951. He was a lifetime coal miner with UMWA, working for Liggett Mining in Harlan Co., KY, Blue Diamond Mining Co. near Hyden, KY and retiring from Consolidation Coal Co. in Tackett, Tennessee. Wilmer was an avid hunter and gardener, and many friends and relatives were recipients of his produce as his fondness for the work always resulted in far more beans and tomatoes than one family could deal with. He was an outgoing man who knew no strangers. Mr. Day is survived by son, Ron Day, daughter, Mabel Duff (Tony), son, Jerry Day (Jean), daughter, Lisa Parr, (Chris), daughter, Bobbi Jo Ellis (Danny); as well as grandchildren, Daniel Day (Kim), Anthony Duff (Kelli), Timothy Duff (Cathy), Jessica Hang (Tim), Matthew Parr (Kenzi), Erica Hendrickson, and James Robert Hendrickson; eleven great-grandchildren, sisters Florence Murphy (Kyle) and Armilda Belcher; and brother, John Day, sisters-in-law, Lottie Gross and Jane Harris, brother-in-laws, Lloyd Harris (Theresa), John Harris (Isla), and Buster Harris (Vivian), along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mossie, sisters, Maude Lewis and Mary Day, and brothers, Elmer and Bill Day. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville, with funeral to follow with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Day's life. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11:00am the graveside service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery & Memorial Gardens in Harrogate, TN. Pallbearers are Daniel Day, Anthony Duff, Timothy Duff, Matthew Parr, Charles Belcher and Brandon Bowling. Honorary Pallbearers are Ron Day, Jerry Day, John Day, James Hendrickson, Danny Ellis, Chris Parr, Tony Duff, Garrett Halcomb, Jerry Wheeler and Kenneth Wheeler.
