William Oscar Wilder

March 11, 1925 — February 14, 2015

William Oscar Wilder, 89 of Clear Creek, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Middlesboro ARH Hospital. He was born at Little Clear Creek on March 11, 1925, and was the son of the late Nathaniel and Elsie Webb Wilder. William was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served during World War II and had worked in the log woods and saw mills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Everett, Terrell and Elmer Wilder and sisters, Glenna Bolton, Thelma Lowe, Violet Partin and Bernice Cortner. William was the devoted husband of Gertrude Sharp Wilder for 67 years, having married on October 27, 1947. He was the loving father of eight children; Larry and Brenda Wilder, Raymond and Louise Wilder, Doug and Teresa Wilder, Phyllis and Virgil Neal, Inez and Lester Miracle, Carol Sue and Cecil Smith, Gary and Melissa Wilder and Elmer Wilder, all of Clear Creek. He was a wonderful grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and was expecting another great-grandchild in May. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Terrell Gibson. Music will be by family and friends. Burial will follow at the Smith Hill Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to be serving the Wilder family.
