William Henry Smith

William Henry Smith, 91, a lifelong resident of Kettle Island, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin. He was born in Bell County on February 20, 1933, the son of the late Birchel and Nannie Baker Smith. William proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He is an Honorable Kentucky Colonel, received the Ambassador of Peace Medal, and had retired from CSX Railroad. William was a member of the Laurel Hill Pentecostal Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray and Ralph; and sisters, May DeAnna, and Wilma.

William is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sheila Ann Blanton Smith; daughters, Priscilla Byrd and Tammy Slusher; son, William Dale Smith; special niece, Christine Blanton; special friends, Virgie Dell, Wayne Grace, and all of his family and friends at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Dr. Charlie Goodman presiding.  Military Honors will be provided by the Harlan Honor Guard including a 21 Gun Salute.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Amedisys Nurses, Baptist Health of Corbin, and the VA of Lexington for their care and support.
