William Carey

William “Shitty Bill” Carey, 78, of Speedwell, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the Claiborne Medical Center in Tazewell. He was born on June 22, 1947 in Speedwell and was the son of the late Fred and Viola Jessie Carey.

In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by his son, William Mitchell Carey; sisters, Lois Lambert, Margaret Evans, Paralee Trombley, Eva Cavins, Sara Jones and Carolyn Williford; and his brother, Freddie “Doc” Carey.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Doris Brooks Carey; children, Ann Williams Kershaw and husband Jesse, Donna Faye Russell and husband, Josh, and Cody Lee Carey and Crystal Leach; three special grandchildren, Chelsey Williams, Katie Russell, and Olivia Williams; special great-grandson, Grant Hunter Bledsoe; sister, Hazel Carey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Rev. Tim Cosby. Music will be by Chris Wilburn and Phillip Powers. Graveside interment services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 16 at Flatwoods Cemetery in Speedwell. Pallbearers will be Jeff Ball, Lee Lambert, Dave Lambert, Travis Carey, Jeremy Williams and Terry Evans. Honorary pallbearers are Jesse Kershaw, Travis Sweat, and Paul Irvin.

The family will receive friends  on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate, which is honored to be serving the Carey family.
