Willard Douglas Griffith

Willard Douglas 'Doug' Griffith,79, of Balkan, KY., passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014 at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born in Williamsburg, KY., on April 1, 1934 a son of the late James Griffith and Mary Jane Wells Griffith. He was a believer in the Catholic faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna R. Gauthier Griffith in 2005; daughter, Shirley A. Griffith Florentino in 1990; son, James F. Griffith in 1984; great-granddaughter, Ashley N. Olear in 2010; Mother and Father-in-law, Lillian Pepin Gauthier and Fred Gauthier; two brothers, Hurlous Griffith and Millard Griffith; two sisters, Evelyn Jackson and Delores Juanita Wilson and several other in-laws. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Tom) Davenport , of Ferndale, Susan (Shawn) Saenz of Balkan and Mary (Gary) Wilson of Balkan; two sons, Steven Griffith and Michael Griffith of Balkan. Grandchildren, Ken(Eve) Florentino of McKinney Texas, Linda (Kevin) Olear of Hutch, Pam (Chris) Denkins of Middlesboro, Amanda (Gary) Rice of Tazewell, TN., Kristen (Delwyn) Jackson of Birmingham, Alabama, Tracey Willis of Tucson, Arizona, Jim Saenz and Crissy Saenz of Balkan, David, Cody and Brandon Wilson of Balkan. Great-grandchildren, Miranda Florentino, Alyssa Olear, Marcus Overton, Logan Sharpe, Thomassa and Addison Rice, Tianna Thomas. Cayden Unger and Travis Leming. One sister, Nora 'Nadine' (Curt) Lester of Charleston Illinois. A niece whom he loved as his sister, Helen Howard of Cold Iron. In-laws, Edith Griffith of Calloway, Fred 'Bill' Gauthier of Ferndale, Michigan, and Anita Gauthier of Sterling Heights, Michigan. Special nephew, Jim Lester of Charleston, Illinois, and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was a big sports fan of Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings. He really loved his U.K. basketball wildcats. Now he is back together with his wife in their heavenly home, together always. Services will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 7:30 PM at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Mr.Jay Steele. At Willard's request he will be cremated after the service at the Arnett & Steele Cremation Center in Pineville. The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center , Pineville, which is honored to serve the Griffith Family.
