In Loving Memory of Wayne Dickerson

Wayne Dickerson, age 72, of Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. He was born on November 16, 1953, to the late Irving Dickerson Sr. and Ruby Lee Dickerson.

Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mona Kay Dickerson; his sister, Oretta Dickerson; his brother, Irving Dickerson Jr.; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Marie Harris and Houston Charles Harris; and special brother-in-law, Terry Montgomery.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his daughter, Tonya Dickerson Asher (Malcom) of Roark, Kentucky; his sons, Jason Dickerson (Christy) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Aaron Dickerson (Jennifer) of London, Kentucky. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and special brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Marjean Montgomery and Sidney Baker, all of whom brought him tremendous joy and pride.

Wayne dedicated 35 years of service as Head Janitor at Red Bird School, where he became much more than an employee. He was a familiar face, a trusted friend, and a source of encouragement to countless students, teachers, and staff members. Throughout his years at the school, Wayne served as a referee, coach, and mentor, always willing to offer a helping hand, a kind word, or practical advice. The impact he made on the lives of those around him will be remembered for generations.

Outside of his work, Wayne was a man of many interests and talents. He was a master gardener who took pride in cultivating beautiful gardens and sharing his knowledge with others. He loved spending time reading, camping, and watching sports. Among his fondest memories were the family camping trips to Cave Run Lake, where laughter, storytelling, and time spent together created lasting memories for all who attended.

Wayne will be remembered for his strong work ethic, gentle spirit, unwavering dedication to his family, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave so freely.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the countless memories they shared and the lasting impact he made on his community.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, make donations to Red Bird Christian School and the Clay County Public Library.

"A life well lived leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. Wayne's legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him."

Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville is honored to serve the Dickerson Family.
