Walter E. Howard, 75, of Cardinal, Kentucky entered eternal rest on Friday, August 31, 2018 at his home. He was born on May 6, 1943 at Cardinal and was a son of the late Vincent B. Howard and Clara Andrews Howard. He was a retired employee of the Debra Lynn Coal Company and a life long member and song leader of the Blackmont Baptist Church. A United States Army Veteran, he served his country during the Viet Nam War in the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry and was awarded an Air Medal for his service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Barton and Mary Helen Brittain, and two brothers, Mendle Howard and Vincent Howard, Jr. Survivors include his sons, Walter Howard, Jr. of Hulen, KY, Jason Allen Howard of Mount Vernon, KY, and daughter, Kasi Lynn Howard-Parsons of Mount Vernon, KY; the Mother of his children, Janice (Eddie) Saylor; five grandchildren, Dawson Thomas Howard, Kaylee Brooke Howard, Gavin Allen Howard, Christopher Maddox Parsons and Madelynn Kate Ann Parsons; brothers, Joe Howard and wife, Lola, Jerry Howard, and Ray Howard all of Williamstown, KY, Jack Howard and Mary Simpson of Cardinal, KY; sisters, Jewell DeGrado of Scottsdale, AZ and Sharon Henderson and husband, Gene of Louisville, KY; and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Walter loved his church family, his dog, Tayshawn, University of Kentucky Basketball and Football and Bell County Football. He had two very special nieces, Bridgette Howard and Rita Howard Bice, and a very special friend, Sue Qualls. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5 at the Blackmont Baptist Church with Rev. David Howard and Rev. Thomas Heck. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery at Cardinal. Pallbearers will be Fred Howard, Shane Howard, Fred Howard, Jr., Terry Q. Howard, Mark Barton, Larry Howard and Josh Howard. Honorary pallbearers are the Blackmont Baptist Church Brotherhood and his former coworkers and Debra Lynn Coals. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 until 9 PM at the Blackmont Baptist Church.
