Virgil F. Baker, 85, passed away after a 10 year illness on Thursday, November 27, 2014. He was born in Pineville, on February 3, 1929 a son of the late Richard and Debbie Lawson Baker. He believed in the Pentecostal faith, had been a Christian since 1962 and was a Sunday School Bible Teacher. Virgil loved music, he sang and played the guitar and mandolin in Church Services. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1947 to 1949. Virgil had been a coal miner for 28 years at Cypress Coal Company and had worked at Walmart in Barbourville for 8 years as a greeter and in the lawn and garden section. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leon and Howard Baker; sister, Thelma Baker Hughes; parents-in-law, Hestle and Lillie Brock. He is survived by his wife of 64 years and 11months, Pauline Brock Baker; sons and daughters-in-law, Stevie and Lisa Baker of Ewing, VA and Gerald and Betty Baker of Barbourville; grandchildren, Daryl Baker of Lexington, KY; Ben Baker of Frankfort, KY; Darla Gibson of Middlesboro and Isaac Baker of Barbourville; great-grandchildren, Brittany Baker and Brianna Baker of Scottsville, KY, Jason Jr. Brown, Jake Brown and Lucas Gibson of Middlesboro, KY, brothers and sisters, Claude and Magaline Baker of Pineville; Hubert and Betty Baker of Pineville; Virgie Dell of Barbourville and Lloyd and Stella Brock of Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 1:00 PM Sunday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Chapel with Speaker, Mr. Gaston Rose. Music will be by Lisa Messer and Angie Saylor. Burial will be in the Brock Cemetery at East Pineville. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Baker Family.
