Virgie Dell, 87, of Barbourville, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 26, 1938, in Pineville, Kentucky, to the late Richard and Debbie Baker. She spent her life loving people well, and she carried herself with kindness, humor, and a spark that made her unforgettable. Her devotion to God shaped the way she lived, and her compassion touched countless lives.
She was a faithful member of Laurel Hill Pentecostal Church for 52 years, where she found great joy in worship and fellowship. She loved playing her guitar and singing; her music reflected her deep faith and love for the Lord. Her church family was very dear to her, and her life was a testimony to the importance of serving others and living with a grateful heart. Virgie never met a stranger; she had a warm, welcoming way that made others feel special. You never had to wonder what she was thinking, and she left you with a smile on your face and a heart warmed with laughter. She served as a door greeter at Walmart for 25 years, and her smile and positive outlook brightened the day for not only the customers but also her coworkers who became as close as family to her.
Virgie had a gift for making people feel seen and valued - greeting friends, coworkers, and strangers alike with warmth, honesty, and that feisty personality everyone knew and loved. She never hesitated to speak her mind, and she did it with love and laughter. Her family and friends were truly her life, and she will be remembered as a devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.
Virgie is survived by two brothers, Claude Baker and Lloyd Brock; one daughter, Kathy Spurlock & her husband, Denny; one son, Dennis Dell; five grandchildren, Josh Spurlock and wife, Joanna, Amanda Roop and her husband, Jason, Jeremy Spurlock and wife, Jacqueline, Allison Dell, and Jonas Dell; and ten great-grandchildren.
