Viola Akers Harris, 87, went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2013, with her son and 2 sisters by her side. She was born in Pineville, Ky., to the late Joseph Arthur and Pearlie Dean Akers. She lived in Pineville and some of her young married life in Corbin with her late husband Andrew Harris, who was a Roadmaster for L&N Railroad. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. She believed in the Holiness faith and attended church at the Church of God Prophecy on Hendron Hill at Straight Creek. She was a member of the Pineville Chapter 89, Order of the Eastern Star for 37 years. Viola?s hobbies were cooking and making sure that everyone that come into her home left with a full stomach. She was a giver and loved seeing people happy and made sure that if anyone she knew needed anything they were taken care of. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved them very much. Any time anyone came in her home, she made sure that she showed them her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially proud of her son Joe, who was everything to her. Viola loved her home health nurses from the PCH Home Health. She thought of them as part of her family and they treated her as part of theirs. She would talk about them for hours of the evenings. The staff on PCH?s 1st Floor were wonderful with their care of her. Although she couldn?t communicate very well at the last, when she saw them coming into her room, she would wave her hand and smile at them. The entire staff was very loving and caring during her stay. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Harris, a son, Jerry Wayne; two brothers, Charles Edward Akers and Joseph (Joe) Arthur Akers, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Emma Akers and a nephew, Dennis Akers.
