Ted Rodney Collett, 41, of Beverly, KY, while surrounded by family and saved by the Grace of God, crossed over to Glory on November 17, 2016 at 8:30 PM. Rodney, a member of the Red Bird Fire Department, had sustained critical injuries while battling a blaze three weeks prior. Born on August 29, 1975, Rodney was preceded in death by his infant sister, Norma Sue, maternal grandparents, Joe and Lola Knuckles; and paternal grandparents, Robert and Hazel Collett. Survivors include his parents, the Reverend Ted and Shirley Collett; sister, Connie Jo and husband, Kevin Baker; aunts, Jo Ann Falin, Kay and Sharon Knuckles and Sue and husband, Bob, Simpson. Survivors also include uncles, Ray and wife, Shirlene Knuckles; Tommy and wife, Wilma Collett; and Malcom and wife, Tonya Asher. Rodney was a great influence and mentor to the three nephews he adored, Caleb and Cole Baker and Joshua Knuckles. He often told these boys, 'Uncle loves you,' and he really did. Among the host of friends Rodney has touched throughout his life is R.L. Lawson of Beverly. The two spent many an evening together caring for R.L.'s horses and going to auctions. Rodney was an avid rider of four-wheelers and developed strong relationships with his riding buddies. He would anxiously await for the phone to ring in hopes of hearing it was time to hit the trails. John and Elaine Noble, also members of the Red Bird Fire Department, are special friends to Rodney and have always supported him and his family in any way they can. Their friendship has been, and will continue to be, especially valuable in this time of need. One of Rodney's greatest passions in life was being a member of the Red Bird Volunteer Fire Department and the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department. For the last three years, Rodney has been a dedicated and enthusiastic Firefighter. He received great joy and satisfaction from helping people and being part of something genuinely important. He threw himself into the role wholeheartedly and developed a great love and respect for his family of Firefighters. Despite battling adverse health conditions for virtually his entire life, Rodney remained optimistic, never allowing his limitations to define him. In fact, he rose above any and all perceived limitations to live a life filled with possibilities. Rodney never stayed down for too long, and went on about wringing the living out of life. Rodney had a vibrant personality and special gift that enabled him to bypass the barriers people usually place around themselves. He seemed to know everyone, and became such a force in the lives of so many. Rodney was that rare type of individual whose presence becomes the glue that helps hold a community together. All who knew Rodney, and all those whose lives he touched will always be appreciative of the precious time they shared with him. A Celebration of Rodney's life will held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Beverly United Methodist Church in Beverly, KY at 1:00 PM. Services will be led by Reverends J.D. Hensley, Chad Hensley and Steven Riddle. Burial will follow at the Slusher Cemetery No. 4 in Beverly, KY. A meal will be provided after the graveside service at the Red Bird Senior Center in Beverly. The family would like to give a special thanks to the medical staff at the Pikeville Trauma Center for their professional and compassionate efforts to help Rodney in his final days. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, KY from 5 until 9 PM on Monday .
