Sue Keck

Katherine Sue Keck, 71, was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on February 1, 1954, and passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in Tazewell, Tennessee following a brief illness. She professed her faith at an early age, and was a member of Harrogate Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Virgil and Jeanette Lorton Keck, and is survived by her sister, Sandra.

Sue was a life-long resident of Harrogate, and following her dream, enrolled in the Opticians Program at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon graduation, Sue returned to Harrogate and established Mountain Optical Dispensary in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She devoted her professional and personal life to providing the best eye care for residents of the tri-state area. Her goal was to help each patient to “see your best and look your best,” and she worked to please every patient. She was fortunate to find a business partner, Dr. Lee Cain, who shared her goals for forty years until her retirement in 2020.

Sue loved her family, her co-workers, her many friends and her homes in Harrogate and South Carolina. She took great pleasure in unlocking the door to Mountain Optical each day to care for the needs of every patient who sought her help.

Memorial gifts in Sue’s honor are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, Kentucky 40508.

A memorial service for Sue will be held at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Rev. Roger Hansard officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate, which is honored to be serving the Keck family.
