Sue Parrott Gambrel, age 68, of Pineville, KY went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 atCompassionate Care Center, Richmond, with her family by her side. She was born at Cherry Point Naval Base, North Carolina on February 2, 1948 to the late John S. Jr and Pauline Howard Parrott. Sue was married to her childhood sweetheart, Danny Gambrel for 50 years. She was a former member of East Jellico Baptist Church where she was saved at an early age. She is currently a member of the First Christian Church of Pineville where she has taught Sunday School, conducted Christmas Plays, and was the Adult Women's Fellowship Devotional Leader. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband Danny and her children: Amie Sue (Lee) Gallion and their children, Amanda (Perry) Swack and daughter, Nora Katherine, and other daughters, Kenoa Grace and Meredith Lee. Her two sons, Dan (Kellie Mullins) and children Austin, Ethan, and Emma; and son, Jason (Lori Thomas) and children Dirk, Maddie, and Maxwell. Also survived by her brother, John Parrott III (MaryAnn), Sisters, Sharon Parrott, Sheryl (Danny) Davis, Sara (Delphus) Goodin, and Sonya (Darrell) Akers, and special Aunt Evylene Goodin along with many relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. John S. and Zella Parrott and John and Jane Howard; parents-in-law, Otto and Mary Gambrel and sister-in-law, Jeanne G. Cinnamon. She was a 1966 graduate of Lone Jack High School where she was Valedictorian, a 1970 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Cumberland College and had earned her Master of Arts and Rank I/Superintendent Degrees from Eastern Kentucky University. She was retired from the Bell County School System where she served as high school English teacher, and Supervisor of Instruction. She organized the first girls' high school softball team, was a Beta Club Sponsor for 20 years and was instrumental in establishing the band flag corp for Lone Jack High. Sue served as secretary for the Kentucky Association of Instructional Supervisors statewide, was recognized by the Bell County Celebration of Women, and served as Executive Secretary of the KY Mountain Laurel Festival for many years where she earned the Outstanding Service Award and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. She was a past member of the Pineville Independent School Board and a member of the KY Retired Teachers Association of Kentucky. She loved reading, cross-stitching, scrapbooking/card making and working in her garden. The family will receive friends and family at the Arnett Steele Funeral Home on Friday, November 18 from 6 to 8 pm with a short memorial service at 8 pm. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Pineville Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church, Pineville, KY.
