South Bevins

South Clinton Bevins of Pineville, KY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011. Born in McCombs, KY, on July 21, 1930, he was the only child of Grady and Martha Bevins. He arrived in Pineville in March of 1957 and founded the radio station WMLF, which later became WANO 1230 AM. He also owned and operated KLER-VU Cable TV, delivering cable service throughout Bell County until his retirement in the mid-1980s. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Bevins. Survivors include his wife, Trilby Bevins of Harrogate; son, Wade Bevins of Middlesboro and daughter-in-law, Melissa Bevins; daughter, Beth Bevins Duncan of Tazewell and son-in-law, Bill Duncan; grandsons, Aaron and Will Bevins and Joseph, Isaac, and Matthew Duncan; and sister, Ruth Stone of Harrogate. Step daughters include Cynthia Stephens and husband, Al and Margaret Serrenho and husband, Joe, both of Harrogate; and Rebecca Jones and husband, Tim of Cleveland, TN. Step grandchildren are Erika Bolton, Joseph and Amelia Serrenho, and Connor Jones. He also leaves behind several cousins and a large number of friends. He attended the University of Kentucky and was a veteran of the US Air Force and the US Army. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Middlesboro, and an ordained deacon. He also served his church and community on several boards and agencies and frequently volunteered transportation for others with health needs.
