Sonya Kay Moyers

Sonya Kay Moyers, 48, of Speedwell, TN passed away on Sunday October 3rd, 2021, at Middlesboro ARH after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born November 15th, 1972, at at Pineville Community Hospital to Charles and Thelma Simpson. She was a cook at Powell Valley Elementary School for many years and had become a homemaker in her later years. She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was proceeded in death by her father: Charles Simpson Jr.; grandparents: Charles Sr. and Edna Simpson; and Jackie and Cora Bays; uncles: Joe Bays, Lonnie Broughton, Henry Bays, Gary Hinkle, and Larry Paul Simpson; aunt: Betty Broughton; cousin: Coley Simpson; in laws: Wade and Beatrice Moyers; step-mother-in-law: Hazel Moyers; and brother-in-law: Wayne Moyers.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Michael Moyers Sr. of Speedwell; children, Courtney Simpson of Fourmile, KY; Michael Moyers Jr. of Speedwell, TN; step-daughter, Jessica and Adam Bledsoe of Louisville, KY; special friends: Megan and Tyler Griffin of Myrtle Beach, SC; and her granddaughters, Ily and Stevie Griffin or Myrtle Beach, SC; mother, Thelma “Sue” Simpson of Fourmile, KY; sister Tonya and Jeff Brashears of New Tazewell, TN; nephews, Dalton and Eli Brashears of New Tazewell, TN; brother-in-law: Roger and Kathy Moyers of Acworth, GA; nephews: Roger Wade and Matthew Moyers of Acworth, GA; niece: Kaitlyn Moyers of Acworth, GA; sister-in-law: Beverly Moyers of Wise, VA; nephew: Chris Moyers of Wise, VA; niece: Jenna and Michael Harper of Denton, TX; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Visitation for friends & family will be from 5-7pm at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate, TN on Thursday, October 7th, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, October 8th, 2021 at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Rev. Arthur Jackson and Rev. James Griffin officiating. Graveside service and burial to follow at Carr Cemetery in Speedwell, TN.
