Silas Finley Goodin, age 88, passed away Monday morning, April 13, 2020 at his home. He was born on July 16, 1931, in Ingram, Kentucky to the late Clarence and Maude Ellen Golden Goodin. Silas was a member of the Baptist Faith and The Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ingram. On January 10, 1953, he was united in marriage with Wilma Jean Farmer and to this union one child was born, Susan Marie Smith. Silas attended the Bell County School System and graduated from Bell County High School. He attended both Cumberland and Union Colleges and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University where he obtained his BS and MA Education Degrees. Silas is remembered as a much loved, respected and dedicated educator in Bell County, where he retired after 30 years. During those years, he served as a teacher, coach and principal and mentor to hundreds of children. Silas gave service to his country during his 4 years with the United States Air Force while stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also was a local business co-owner of the Western Auto in Pineville, Kentucky. Silas was a dedicated church member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist in Ingram, Kentucky for 73 years. He was active as a deacon, church treasurer and choir member where he was greatly admired for his talent as a bass vocalist. Silas was preceded in death by his parents, Maude Ellen Golden and Clarence Goodin; his brother, Marvin Clarence Goodin; sister, Cleta Marjorie Goodin Taylor; sister, Sylvia Chastine Goodin Baker and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Aaron Barton. Silas leaves behind to celebrate his life and continue his memories; his wife of 67 years, Wilma Jean Goodin of Ingram, his daughter, Susan Smith of Ingram; his grandson, Jesse Barton of Barbourville; his grandson, Travis Barton of Middlesboro; his granddaughter, Raychel McKay and her husband, Timothy of Louisville and granddaughter, Kirsten Smith and boyfriend, Steven Wamback of Bowling Green; great-grandchildren include, Shane Lawson, Izabelle Barton, Andy Barton, Emma McKay and Madilyn Kate McKay. He also leaves: sister-in-law, Mable Goodin; nieces and nephews, Marvin Baker, David Goodin, Karen Hammons, Shannon Bennett and Michelle Taylor; great-nieces and nephews: Jacob Martin, Lucas Bennett, Benjamin Hammons and Whitney Baker; Great-great-niece, Quinn Baker; the children of Sil and Carrie Golden, whom he loved as his own brothers and sisters, Clayton Golden, Drucilla Hembree, Thomas Golden, Maudie VanBever, James Golden, Lovella Abraham, Donald Golden, Rita Evans and Lynne Golden and Special Family friend, Kathy Foster. A Public Celebration of his life will be at a later date. Private services will be held with Rev. Paul Wayne Goodin and Rev. Keith Bays. Music will be by Thomas and Caffie Goodin and Izabelle Barton. Pallbearers will be Travis Barton, Jesse Barton, Shane Lawson, Shelton Evans, David Goodin, Nick Evans, Jimmy Goodin and Roy Goodin. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim McKay, Steven Wamback and Marvin Baker. Burial will be in the Golden Cemetery at Ingram. For those wishing to view and pay final repects to Mr. Goodin Saturday, April 18, 2020 at approximately 2:15 PM an automobile procession of family and friends will proceed by the right side of Ebenezer Baptist Church and out through the parking lot. Remember, you MAY NOT exit your vehicles at any point during this tribute due to Corona Virus social distancing restrictions.
