Shirley Glenn Goodin

March 11, 1935 — June 3, 2023

Shirley Glenn Goodin, 88 of Bean Station, Tennessee, formerly of Fourmile, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He was born in Fourmile on March 11, 1935, a son of the late John and Alma Goodin. Shirley graduated from Union College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Education Degree and began his teaching career at Lone Jack High School. He was assistant Boys Basketball Coach under G.B. Hendrickson, where together they took the Mustangs to the Sweet 16 Tournament in 1961 and 1962. Shirley became the head coach shortly after 1963 and continued coaching until 1972. As a head coach he set records in the number of District and Regional Championships and was SEKC Coach of the Year for the 1970-1971 season.


Shirley left teaching and coaching and began working for the Department of Interior as a Federal Mine Inspector until he retired in March of 1999. After retiring, he moved to Bean Station, Tennessee where he spent the majority of his time fishing at the Cherokee Lake, second to his family. Shirley was the biggest University of Kentucky Basketball fan and an awesome assistant to all the coaches from his chair.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Welch Goodin; daughter, Sandra K. Goodin; grandson, Chancellor Goodin Hensley; brother, Earl Goodin; and sister, Betty June Goodin Browning.


Shirley is survived by his daughter, Angela Goodin of Frankfort; son, Greg Goodin of Clinton, Arkansas; stepdaughter, Brandy Sizemore and husband, Jonathan; girlfriend, Brenda Simpson; grandchildren, Lauren Ashcraft and husband, Ryan, of Winchester, Brynlee Sizemore of Fourmile, Ashley Hollandsworth and husband, Heath, of Pasadena, California, and Cody Brandon Fee; great-grandchildren, Avery Ashcraft, Caden Ashcraft, Colton Ashcraft, Lucy Hollandsworth, and Willa Hollandsworth; special nephew, Gary Goodin; and host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. James Griffin presiding. Burial will follow at the Goodin Cemetery in Fourmile. Pallbearers will be Bo Goodin, Ryan Ashcraft, Chris Foley, Dustin Lewis, Jamie Goodin, Jonathan Sizemore, Steven Simpson, Johnny Patrick, George Simpson, and Mike Fry. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Goodin, Bill Williams, Bill Hall, Ellis Ryan, and Robert Sizemore.


The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Goodin Family. Light a candle of remembrance and sign the guest register at www.arnettsteele.com.
