Sallie Mae “Mamaw” Hunter, 87 of Tazewell, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2023, at the Tri State Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harrogate.  She was born in Speedwell on July 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Jessie and Clara Gibson Hunter.  Sallie Mae had been a farmer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Verlin Hunter, George Hunter, John Hunter, Jeff Hunter, and Joe Hunter, and sisters, Lucille Hunter, Maggie Russell, Beatrice Miller, and Hester Massengill.

Sallie Mae is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Josey and Richard Neely and Zola Berniece and Curtis Mayes; son, Allen Scott Hunter; grandchildren, Logan Hunter Neely and Peyton Thomas Neely; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel with Rev. Travis Dunn presiding.  Music will be provided by Aaron Hunter.  Burial will follow at the Hunter Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate, which is honored to serve the Hunter Family.  Light a candle of remembrance and sign the guest register at www.asvalleychapel.com.
