Russell Dale Cornelius

Russell Dale Cornelius, 68 of Pineville, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at his home. He was born in Pineville on July 28, 1953, a son of the late Cecil Creed and Christine Brock Cornelius. Russell loved all UK Athletics, had played football for Carson Newman College as a punter and tight end, and had been on the 1971 National Championship team. He was a member of the Community Harvest Tabernacle where he had been a Sunday School Teacher for over 20 years. Russell had been a truck driver and had worked in the coal mines. He loved his family and little dogs, Scruffy, Boogie, and Muffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brandon Dale Cornelius; brother, Norman Cornelius; and father and mother-in-law, Oscar Johnny and Darcus Warren. Russell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sylvia Warren Cornelius; daughter and son-in-law, Christie Diane and Arvil Willis; grandson, Zachary Willis; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Debbie Cornelius; sisters-in-law, Deloris Cornelius and Yvonne Gilliam and husband, Roger; nieces, Bethany Johnson and husband, Wendell, Natasha Good and husband, Brian, Mattie Coffey and husband, Garrard, and Shannon Slusher; caretaker, Gina Hatfield; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to Gina Hatfield, Keean Fuson, and Blake Ramey for their care and help. Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. David Rice and Rev. Danny Daniels presiding. Music will be provided by Gerald Baker. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Sunday at the Brock Burnett Cemetery in Pineville. Pallbearers will be Wendell Johnson, Tim Rose, Randy Rose, Cole Philpot, Ben Baker, Tim Cornelius, David Cornelius, Ethan Gambrel, Austin Gambrel, and Brian Good. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Brock and Robin Saylor. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Cornelius Family.
