Ruby Onalee Yoakum

Mrs. Ruby Onalee Parrott Yoakum, age 99, of Speedwell, TN was born December 26, 1920 in Manring, TN and went to be with her Lord June 4, 2020 after a long illness. She grew up in Claiborne County and graduated from Powell Valley High School in 1940. Ruby professed faith in Christ as a young teenager and joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She went to work in 1940 and married Clyde Earl Parrott in 1942. Ruby also worked at Public Works for 6 years. She went to Carson Newman Bible College for 6 years and the taught Sunday School for many years afterwards, served as the librarian at Glade Springs Baptist Church, taught many Bible schools, and was a caretaker for members of her family through sickness and death. She loved reading her Bible, visiting, and helping people, especially the elderly, gardening, and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents; Rev. Joshua “J.V.” and Roxie Mae (Marsee) Grubb, first husband; Clyde Earl Parrott, husband; Samuel Glenn Yoakum, sisters; Willie Lou Rogers and Charlene Hatfield, brothers; Hubert J. Grubb and David Grubb, and a loving mother-in-law. She leaves to mourn her loss brother; Ray Grubb and wife Linda of Speedwell, TN, step grandchildren; Terry and Kay Yoakum and their children Jessica and Nicklas Glenn Yoakum, all of Friendsville, TN. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 1:30PM until 3PM with funeral services to follow at 3PM at Carr’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Atkins officiating. Music will be provided by Brian Giles and Linda Grubb. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, LaFollette, TN with nephews and great nephews serving as pallbearers.
