Ronald Franklin Jones, age 84, of Kettle Island, passed away peacefully on September
19 th , 2024 at the Middlesboro Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, surrounded by his
loving family. He was born in Harlan on October 21, 1939 to the late Roy and Elizabeth
Bowling Jones. He was saved and faithfully attended Mill Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law
Harold and Audrey Jones, his great grandson, John Tucker Green, his father and mother-
in-law, Perl V. and Florence Brock,.
Ronnie, as he was called by his family and friends was a devoted, loving husband,
Daddy, “Pap”, uncle and friend. On November 8, 1963 Ronnie married the love of his
life, Brenda Brock, a marriage that lasted 60 years. To this union was born two daughters,
five grandsons one granddaughter and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom were
adored by their Pap.
Ronnie graduated from Pineville High School in 1957, and promptly joined the United
States Air Force where he faithfully served his country for the next 4 years. He
considered serving his country an honor and wore his U.S. Air Force cap proudly.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ronnie received his
Bachelor’s Degree from Cumberland College and his Master’s Degree and Rank I from
Eastern Kentucky University. Following his graduation from Cumberland College,
Ronnie began teaching business at his Alma Mater, Pineville High School. Through his
hard work and dedication, he later served consecutively as both principal and
superintendent in the Pineville School System. Ronnie continued his career as DPP and
finance director for the Bell County School System where he retired.
Ronnie will long be remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his family,
always providing guidance and support. His sense of humor was always great fun to
those around him. Though Ronnie could be stern, he was very witty and could bring
laughter to any situation. He was also an avid baker and was known far and wide for his
legendary “wet chocolate cake” which was a staple at Sunday dinners, church
homecomings, and family reunions. The cake was usually gone before dinner was served.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Brenda Brock Jones, His two daughters,
April and Eddie Leisge, Elizabeth and Todd Green. Pap, as he was lovingly called is
also survived by his 5 grandsons, Brock Edmond (Brooklyn) Leisge, Connor Franklin
(Hannah) Leisge, Jacob Todd (MaKayla) Green, John Tyler (Morgan) Green, Justin Trey
(Allison) Green, one precious granddaughter, Taylor Joyce (Lance) Short, and great
grandchildren, Brett Edmond Leisge, Laina Isabella Leisge, Eli Franklin Leisge, Lilly
Scott, Jacob Tate Green, Judson Todd Green, Jack Thomas Green, Amelia Rae Green and
Aiden Mason and two more on the way; a special great nephew, Luke Miller, and a host
of sisters and brothers- in-law, nieces, and nephews–in-law, as well as many other
relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Sanders and Rev. Scott Collett. The music will be by Mickey Wilder and Jill Ramey. Burial will be in Brock Family Cemetery, Kettle Island. Pallbearers will be his sons- in-law Eddie Leisge and Todd Green, grandsons, Brock
Leisge, Jacob Green, Tyler Green, Connor Leisge, and Justin Green, and grandson in-law
Lance Short. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Al Brock, James Rice, Chuck Green, Dr. Jerry L.
Woolum, Bill Cummins, Rod Collett, Dennis Collett, Scott Collett, Greg Lasley, Albey
Brock, Eric Brock, Bill Brock, Keith Rice, Jeff Whitehead, Gary Miller, Dave
Blankenship, Eric Woolum, Charles Ramey, Ken Jones.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Martha Combs-Woolum,
Middlesboro Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Bluegrass Hospice and to Greg and
Vivian Lasley who visited him each day while he was in the UK hospital. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at 3:00 PM at Mill Creek Baptist Church.
