Rex Allen

Rex Allen, 76 of Flat Lick, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Barbourville Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born on June 4, 1942 in Dewitt, Kentucky and was the son of the late Garrett and Lena Carnes Allen. Rex was a believer in the Baptist faith, and had worked in coal mining and construction, and had also operated Allen Excavating. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Elizabeth Hale. Survivors include his wife, whom he married on September 13, 1969, Ivy Lavern Gribbins Allen; sons, Rex Jonathan Allen, Stephen Rexford Allen and wife, Patricia, and William Garrett Allen and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Madison, Taylor, Austin, Eli, Wyatt, Samuel, Makye, Houston, Kalieana, Maverick, Kamdin, Jonathan, Aidan, Laura and Laney; great-grandchildren, Silviana, Markus, Ryker and Sophia; siblings, Shirley Faye Hampton and Carmen Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. The family will host memorial services on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Dewitt Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Collins. A love offering for will be taken at the service in lieu of flowers, and donations will be made to those in need in Rex's memory. Private cremation services were held at the Arnett & Steele Cremation Center in Pineville. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Dewitt Baptist Church.
