Raymond Wayne Howard, 71 of Stoney Fork, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at St. Joseph’s in London. He was born in Hazard on September 26, 1949, a son of the late Raymond and Betty Katherine Southard Howard. Wayne served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a believer in the Baptist Faith and was a coal miner and had been a bus driver for the Bell County School System for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Howard. Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Helton Howard; son, Tim Howard and wife, Viola; stepchildren, Jerry Burnett, Barbara Price and husband, Marc, and Kenny Burnett and wife, Cheryl; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Kenny Howard; sister, Betty Newman; special friend, Kathy Vaughn; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Don Messer presiding. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East in Hyden. Pallbearers will be Jason Couch, Aaron Hillman, Clark Gambrel, Larry York, Charles Hillman, and Konomos Brummett. Honorary pallbearers will be John Slusher, Keith Asher, Buddy Mills, Claude Miller, and Al Webb. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East, 1280 Kentucky Highway 118, Hyden, Kentucky 41749. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Howard Family.
