Calvin

Phillip Lee Gray, Sr. aged 60, of Calvin, KY, surrounded by his adoring family, was called home to be with the Lord at Hazard ARH at 3:58 p.m. on May 17th, 2026. Phillip was born in Lebanon, Ohio, on October 17th, 1965.

To others, he was a friend, some would call him brother, but to his family, he was everything. Phillip was a devoted husband, dad, papaw, uncle, brother, cousin, and trusted keeper of secrets. He was truly impeccable and was loved—so very loved—even when he didn't think he was. Phillip was a handy man, part time therapist, professional yapper, and one of the best cooks to ever hit the kitchen, doing anything he felt would help someone in their time of need. He always put acts of service before himself when he wasn't diving deep into the world of true crime, singing his heart out to country music, or throwing down in the kitchen.

In addition to his tragic passing, Phillip followed his parents, Billy Ray Gray, Sr. and Gertrude "Trudy" Gray, sisters Alice Faye Gray and Lisa Smith Gray, nephew Marshall Gray, niece Linda Gray, and a host of many other friends and family that welcomed him with open and loving arms in the streets of gold.

Left behind to cherish the memory of one of their favorite people this side of Heaven are his loving wife of 24 years, Johnna Sue Gray, brother Billy "Boo" (Suzanne) Gray, children Jennifer Gray, Phillip Gray, Jr. Jackie Lee Gray, James David Lee Gray (Jaelyn), Elizabeth (Zac) Cockrell, Allison Gibson, and a host of many children and grandchildren that he claimed as his own. His legacy forever lives on. He left behind many special friends who will always remember him in their stories, including special friends/brothers Rodney Hatfield, Monty Jordan, Paul Jordan, Pearl Cox, and a multitude of others who loved him dearly.

Phillip's light will forever shine bright through his family, friends, and all who loved him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather. His acts of kindness and servitude made a significant impact on his family and everyone he came in contact with. He never met a stranger and would proudly give the shirt off his back, if he even wore a shirt. Phillip and wearing shirts was not something that happened very often, but if he WAS wearing one, he'd proudly give it up. He had a heart of gold and one of the best personalities of anyone you could ever meet. He was funny, kind, and so loving. He was and always will be an amazing human.

Although this is the end of an era, there are always new beginnings. Phillip fought in a dark world where he truly only wanted to bring light. He is free now, in a body that no longer harbors the pain of everyday life. He is better now and no longer plagued with sickness or a body that fought against him. Though he now roams in the streets of gold, his family and friends will forever keep his memory alive in their everyday lives. Long Live Phillip Lee Gray, forever loved and missed.
