Pete Poore

POORE: George 'Pete' Poore, 74, passed away at the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring in Jacksonville on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

Pete was born May 31, 1935 to Ralph and Evelyn Poore in Arthur, Tennessee. Pete received his B.S. Degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee and then served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. After his military service , Pete received his Masters Degree from Union College in Kentucky. Pete retired in 1993 from Englewood High School where he was a teacher since 1973 and touched many lives. Pete was a huge, life-long fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. He was also an avid golfer and former ranger at Deer Creek Country Club in Jacksonville.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, and by his son, Todd S. Poore. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Poore-Albright (Harry); sister, Jan Poore; 2 granddaughters, Saejin Ling & Summer Siyun; and his former wife & close friend, Nancye Poore.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Tuesday November 10, 2009 in George H. Hewell & Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. Jacksonville, FL 32216

Funeral Services for Pete will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday November 11, 2009 in Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32256. Interment with military honors will be at 2 pm Thursday November 12, 2009 in Jacksonville National Cemetery on Lanie Rd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made in Pete's name to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to the American Cancer Society, 1430 Prudential Dr. Jacksonville, FL 32207.
