Pearl Berniece Hopper, 81, of Speedwell, Tennessee, reached her Heavenly destination on June 16, 2025 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born in Speedwell on June 10, 1944 and was a daughter of the late Frank and Lottie Edwards Robinson. She was a member of Flat Hollow Church of God and attended New Salem Baptist Church. After graduating from Powell Valley High School in 1962, Pearl went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and worked many years as a Registered Nurse at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. She enjoyed farming cattle and gardening. Pearl was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Charles Jack Hopper; son, Charles Jack Hopper, Jr.; granddaughter, Isabella Cook; brothers, Paul Robinson and George Robinson; nephews, Tony Stakely and Kenneth Stakely; and niece, Vaughnna Everett.
Survivors include her daughters, Terri Tye, and Mary Ann Hammons and husband, B.J.; Grandchildren, Jack Hopper, Eric Hopper, and Jessica Cook and husband, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Cook, Audrey Cook, Madison Cook, Ava Joy Cook, Isaac Cook, Marley Cook and Raelyn Hopper; sisters, Martha Lyons and husband, Stanley, and Hazel Stakely; sister-in-law, Lizzie Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 8:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2025 at the New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Cook and Rev. Johnny Parker officiating. Music will be by the New Salem Church Choir. Family and friends will begin to gather at the Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel after 10:00 AM on Saturday morning for a procession to Rogers Cemetery in Speedwell, where graveside interment services will begin at 12:00 noon. Pallbearers will be Michael Valandingham, Matthew Valandingham, Dylan Hoskins, Joey Simms, Mark Jacks, Hayden Smith, Franklin Robinson and Tom Robinson. Terence Hoskins is an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 PM until funeral hour at the New Salem Baptist Church in Speedwell. Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel in Harrogate is honored to be serving the Hopper family.
