Orville Brackett, Jr. passed away on October 16, 2024, in Harrogate, TN, following a hard-fought battle with surgery complications.
He was born in Harveyton, KY on June 20, 1942, the second son of Orville and Anna Shepherd Brackett. He attended Lone Jack Elementary School and later transferred to Pineville High School where he met his sweetheart, Barbara “Barbie” Bishop. They later married and had two wonderful sons, John David and Mark Daniel of whom Orville was extremely proud. While at PHS he excelled in football and track. He attended Cumberland College and the University of Kentucky. He retired from the Kentucky Utilities Company. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Volunteering was a part of his life. He coached Pineville Middle School Football. He was a Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival parade chairman. He served on the Board of Community Development Agency. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Pineville. He enjoyed being a part of mission trips. In recent years he went on many mission trips with the Chadasha Mission Group and assisted with the construction of a hospital in the Dominican Republic.
He enjoyed gatherings with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He initiated the annual Brackett Family Reunion in 2000.
Preceding him in death were, his parents, Orville and Anna Shepherd Brackett; his brother, Kenneth Brackett; special uncle and aunt, Homer and Phoeba Brackett; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Bessie Napier Bishop; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Virginia and Allen Lewis.
Mourning his passing are: his wife of 60 years Barbara Bishop Brackett; his sons, John David Brackett (Kathy Miller) and Dr. Mark Daniel (Cyndi) Brackett; grandchildren whom he loved very much; Phoebe Laurelle Brackett (Zach Rouillier), Logan Thomas (Gabby) Brackett; Olivia Ann Brackett and his soon to arrive great-grandson, Rowan Thomas Brackett; his brothers, Gordon (Marilyn) Brackett and Tom (Vanessa) Brackett; his sister, Sue (Don) Messer;sister-in-law, Ann Brackett; Brother-in-law, John Bishop; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sandy Bishop; and many cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends, Betty Partin, who was like a sister and all his Paula Drive neighbors.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM with the funeral to follow at the Arnett and Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Anglin and Ron Howard.. Following the service burial will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff at Tri-State Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care of Orville and also the ambulance drivers who carefully transported him.
