Olan Whitehead

Olan Whitehead, 74 of Stoney Fork, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Tennova in Knoxville. He was born in Stoney Fork on August 26, 1943, a son of the late James and Mattie Saylor Whitehead. He was of the Holiness Faith and had worked as a coal miner until he became disabled in a coal mining accident. Olan loved gardening, fishing, UK Basketball and loved his dog, Little Bear. He was a loving father, grandfather and a hard working man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, George Whitehead, Joe Whitehead, Felix Whitehead, Liza Belcher, Lora Thomas, Delia Brock and Irene Valentine. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Hattie Shell Whitehead; daughters and their husbands, Shana and Tim Keck, Jennie and Dale Helton; grandchildren, Katlin Brock Whitney Caldwell and husband, Clifton, Kortney Wilder, Joshua Helton and Presley Helton; brother, Thurmond Whitehead; special friend, Danny Warwick and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bailey. Music will be by Trish Warwick, Krista Warwick and Rachel Grubbs. Burial will be at the Whitehead Cemetery (at his home) in Stoney Fork with Danny Warwick, Clifton Caldwell, Tim Keck, Dale Helton, Johnny Crisp, Daniel Warwick, Vic Caldwell and George Mason serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joshua Helton and Adrian Shell. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 9 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Whitehead Family.
