Nathan "Tottie"
Massengill
January 1, 1937 – April 11, 2026
Nathan “Tottie” Monroe Massengill, age 89, of Harrogate, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
A Claiborne County native, born January 1, 1937, in Harrogate, Tennessee, to the late Millard and Mossie Massengill, Tottie devoted his life to being a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and farmer. Also, he was a longtime employee at Jones Lumber Company. Hard working and always having a team of horses, no matter the kind, to work; Tottie enjoyed going on wagon trains and to horse sales at least once a month. In his spare time, he loved to whittle and carried two knives in his pocket, at all times, just in case the opportunity arose. Always willing to tell it like "it was", one did not have to question where they stood with Tottie; therefore, he was loved by all that knew him and had a lot of special friends. Tottie will surely be missed.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of forty-five years, Wilma Jean Massengill; two sons, Jeffrey Wayne Massengill and Joseph Theodore Massengill; one daughter, Karen Elaine Keck; four brothers, Arlo Massengill, Meek Massengill, Dan Massengill and Glen Massengill; and two sisters, Joann McAfee and Barbara Owsley.
Survivors include three sons, Edward Allen Massengill, Brian Scott Massengill and Steven “Mike” Massengill; one daughter, Sherri Lynn (Gene Greer) Malone; thirteen grandchildren, Chesney (Eric) Daniels, Shaun Gilbert, Josh Massengill, Brandon Taylor, Brianna (Chris) Moore, Stephanie (Josh) Lewis, Cody (Kim) Malone, Evan Massengill, Lindsey Keck, Ethan Massengill, Joseph (Nevaeh Williams) Massengill, Gabrielle Massengill and Dakota James “DJ” Monroe Massengill; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Linda) Massengill; one sister, Margie Adams; a host of special nieces, nephews and friends; and beloved dog, Buck.
Visitation will be held at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel, in Harrogate, Tennessee, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 4-7PM.
Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation, in the funeral home’s chapel, at 7PM, with Rev. Kevin Zumbrum and Rev. Kevin Turner officiating.
Music to be provided by Butcher Gap Missionary Baptist Church Choir.
Interment will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at England Cemetery in Tazewell, Tennessee. Procession will be leaving Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel at 11AM.
