Mattie Louise Sanders

Mattie Louise Sanders, age 65 of Middlesboro, Kentucky was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her peaceful passing.

She was born to her loving parents, Ruth and Virgil Knuckles, on April 12th, 1958, in Pineville, Kentucky and raised in Arjay, Kentucky. Mattie was one out of nine siblings. She met so many of her beloved friends cleaning houses and being a true servant to anyone in need. Mattie was not only a loving daughter, she was a mother, nanny, sister, aunt, and friend. "Mattie Cat" extended a hand full of grace until the day she was called home. She was as strong willed as she was hard headed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Virgil Knuckles; and siblings Sharon Kay, Warren Curtis, and James L. George Knuckles.

Mattie is survived by her husband, Roy Sanders Jr.; her daughters, Patsy Fugate and Donald, and Joy Sanders; her sons, Jacob Christopher and Trey Sanders; special niece, Madison Blevins; grandchildren, Jordan and Shelby Burnett; one great grandchild, Morgan Wade; sisters, Rosalee Christopher and Gary Hoskins of Arjay, Kentucky, Tina and David Burnette of LaFollette, Tennessee, Carla and Greg Ward of Middlesboro, Kentucky, and Tammy and Carl Runyon of Artemis, Kentucky; brother Kenneth and Marlene Knuckles of Arjay, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, Jody Christopher, Tressie Parrott, Stevie Christopher, Gregory Ward, Thomas Ward, Savannah Ward, Casey Smith, Brandy Scott, Mandy Maiden, and Kayla Carnes; and a host of great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Wagner and Lee Lyons presiding. Burial will be at 12:00 PM on Friday at the Knuckles-Christopher Cemetery in Arjay with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
