Mary Irene Jackson Messer

Mary Irene Jackson Messer, 80, of Barbourville, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was born on December 14, 1936 in Pineville and was a daughter of the late Hillary and Dona Slusher Jackson. Irene was a believer of the Missionary Baptist faith and had been a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Messer; brothers and sisters, Hillary Jackson, Abraham Jackson, Lillie Thompson, Nancy Ellen Wilson, Laura Henry and Mable Hobbs. Survivors include her daughters and their husbands , Susan and Sam Davenport, Deborah and Terry Huddleston, Nancy Knudsen and Lisa Lewis; son, James Messer; grandchildren, Gary Wayne Messer, James David Hubbard, Elisha Suzanne Grubb, Glen Steven Grubb, Samantha Bowman, Antony Aaron Knudsen, Brandon Lewis, Megan Davenport and Tiffany Lewis; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Troy Miracle and Mr. Josh Brooks. Burial will be on Thursday at 11:00 at the Jackson Cemetery on Laurel Hill with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Messer family.
