Marry Catherine Brotherton, 70, of Morristown, Tennessee, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 7, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late John and Mossie Ayers. Marry was a member of Straight Gospel Missionary Baptist Church and worked as a Hand Spray Operator at Universal Furniture.
Marry is survived by her husband of 51 years, Billy J. Brotherton; children, Shannon Brotherton of Morristown, Cathy Smith and husband, Robert of Ewing, Virginia, and Sherry Carroll and husband, Steven of New Tazewell, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jonathan Carroll and wife, Crystal, Jason Carroll and wife, Cassandra, Robert Smith, Jr., Adam Smith and wife, Ashley, Brandy Smith and fiancé, Bobby Sossoman, Ethan Moore, Brianna Smith, Rosalie Smith, Isiah Smith and Jessie Smith; great-grandchildren, Brantly Carroll, Graclyn Carroll, Rielyn Carroll, Ammaya Sossoman, and Elijah Risner; sisters, Leona Dooley and husband, Glen of Ewing, and Margaret Mitchell of Rutledge; sisters-in-law, Brenda Brotherton, Sherry Brotherton and Judy Headrick; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9. 2026 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church (187 Woodland Hills Drive, Ewing, VA 24248) with Rev. Ralph Turner and Rev. Joe Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Gardens-West in Rose Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Brotherton, Jonathan Carroll, Jason Carroll, Robert Smith, Jr., Adam Smith, and Cameron Winebarger.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Ewing, Virginia.
