Marion Sheppard Reese, age 74 of Middlesboro, KY passed away Thursday June 27, 2013. She was born January 16, 1939 in Gadsden, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John & Mary Burns Sheppard of Gadsden, Alabama. Marion graduated from Gadsden High School and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She later transferred to the University of Alabama where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Education. On October 7, 1964, Marion married Pineville resident George H. Reese III. During her time in Pineville, she was a school teacher at Bell County High School and then became a homemaker to raise their two children Katherine & John. Marion devoted her time to different organizations and community events such as the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival. She was very active in fund raising for the National Kidney Foundation in memory of her young son, John. Marion moved back to her hometown of Gadsden, Alabama where she wore many hats. She was the owner of MJ?s Boutique and a member of the Gadsden Country Club. Later in life, Marion moved back to Kentucky to reside in the city of Middlesboro. She worked for Kentucky Tourism at Cumberland Gap National Park. Marion was a very kind and well-liked southern lady. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son John Sheppard Reese. Her grandparents: John and Hattie Smith Sheppard of Cherokee County, AL and Dr. Charles A. and Jeffy Bell Burns of Alabama City, AL. She is survived by the following members of her family: Daughter: Katherine Reese Capps (Calvin) of Pineville, KY Grandchildren: Reese, Madelyn & George Brother: John T. Sheppard (Alice) of Newport News, VA Nieces: Tammy Nichols (Mark) and Mary Sheppard of Virginia; Anne Horst-Turner of Ithaca, NY and many great nieces
