Joyce Evans

Marilyn Joyce Hodges-Evans, 78, of Pineville passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, with her family around her. She was born in Pineville on December 27, 1945, the daughter of Lucian Clay, Sr., and Rita Alene Murray Hodges.


Joyce was a life-long member of the First Christian Church in Pineville. She was a graduate of Pineville High School and a life-long resident of Pineville; she loved her community and her school. Joyce was a long-standing member of the Booster Club and had served as Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Friends of the Shelter. She was a Kentucky Colonel and Pineville High School Hall of Fame Member. In 2000 Joyce along with her best friend, Yolanda Green, were honored to be the Women of the Year.


Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lucian Clay Hodges, Jr. and his wife, Debbie Hodges; and special uncle and aunt, Ronnie and Billie Murray.


She is survived by her sons, Jon and Kate Evans and Jason Evans; special grandson, Jon Mikel Evans and his wife, Beth; and their children, Ava, and Jase Mikel Evans; grandchildren, Winslow Elizabeth and Lucas Charles Evans; niece and nephews, Hayley, Lucian, and Tanner; cousins, Kelly and Robin; and many special friends.


Services will be on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the First Christian Church with Rev. Jerry Combs. The music will be by Bruce Messer and Ginny Fraley. A burial will follow in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Bowling, Mitchell Jeffrey, Elmer Kincaid, Anthony Bertram, Derrick Thomas, and Darrin Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Grant Brown, Ricky Washington, Clark Green, and Melvin Griffin.


In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Friends of the Shelter, PO Box 2534, Middlesboro, KY 40965.


The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the First Christian Church Pineville from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Arnett & Steele Funeral Home is honored to serve the Evans Family.
