Marcellus Woods, Jr.

July 9, 1940 — February 13, 2022

Marcellus Woods, Jr., age 81 of Pineville, Kentucky was born on July 9, 1940, he went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, February 13, 2022. He was the son of Marcellus Woods, Sr. and Hazel Wilson Woods of Pineville. Marcellus was of the Baptist Faith and was raised at Wasioto and resided at Bird Branch. Marcellus was a proud veteran and served 8 years in the Army National Guard acquiring the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked as a coal miner and foreman at Bailey Hill and Eastover coal companies and was a painter for his family-owned company, the Woods Brothers. Marcellus worked in family resources for the Bell County School System and retired from Clear Creek Bible College where he was head of maintenance. Sill, as his friends lovingly called him, could build and fix anything. He was a man of many talents. He loved to fish and hunt and play basketball with all the "boys" in the neighborhood, back in his younger days. Marcellus loved being a daredevil and loved to play jokes on everyone around. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcellus Woods and Hazel Woods; infant daughter, April Michelle; and his father and mother-in-law, Bob and Virginia Brown. Marcellus is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Brown Woods, of Pineville; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Gilpin and David; three grandchildren, Cody (Dakota) Saylor, Madison Saylor, and Blake Saylor and his fiancé, Morgan Fugate; six great grandchildren, Harrison Marcellus Short, his namesake, Leslie Mariah Saylor, Thomas Elliott Saylor, Benjamin Blake Saylor, Blayze Napier, and Axel Napier; two brothers, John Woods and wife, Liz, and Ralph Woods and wife, the late Jane Woods; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved and a very special friend Leon Miracle. Due to Covid, a private viewing for the immediate family will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022. Public graveside services will follow at 2:30 PM at the Pineville Memorial Cemetery. Services will be provided by Elder Steve Green and the eulogy will be delivered by Jack Smith. Music provided by David Gilpin and Johnny Parks. Pallbearers will be family and close friends.
