Mae G. Akers, 81, of Straight Creek, joined the Lord on March 17, 2008, following a short-term illness in Pineville Community Hospital. She was born Oct. 30, 1926 in Pineville, Ky., the daughter of the late Cecil Hobart and Grace Lee Hubbard Gilbert. She was a member of the Pineville First Christian Church, a beloved and dedicated homemaker. Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Akers; two brothers Robert Lee Gilbert and Leo Glenn Gilbert; and two step-mothers Fairy Gilbert and Willa-Mae Gilbert. Mae leaves behind a loving family ?two sons, Steven Ray and daughter-in-law, Deborah of Raceland, KY and David Wayne and daughter-in-law, Debra of Warsaw, KY; six grandchildren, Tonya Brooks of Lexington, KY; Margaret Katherine Byrd (Malcolm) of Ramstein, Germany; Tony Michael Brooks of Lexington, KY; Anna Akers Clarke (Kelly) of Raceland, KY; Bradley Akers (Rebecca) of Erlanger, KY; and four great-grandchildren, Whitney Brooks, Tyler Brooks, Elijah Byrd, Amelia Rose Clarke; one brother Cecil ?Louie? Gilbert of Albuquerque, NM and one step-sister, Linda Helton of Cumberland, KY. There are also a host of sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and devoted friends and neighbors that brought Mae joy to her heart. Mae?s Family would like to thank with hearts of gratitude, those who assisted in her care: Aberia Kidwell, Duane and Alicia Hoskins, Geneva Baker, Freda ?Bea? Vanbever, June Akers, Curtis Akers, Jr., Francis Akers, Elaine Nelson and Michelle Brock. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Martha Combs Woolum, the staff of Mountain Heritage Hospice and Pineville Community Hospital.
