Lloyd Ray Asher was born on October 18, 1954, to union of the late Farmer and Opal Brock Asher in Beverly, Kentucky. He had been a life-long resident of Beverly and worked as a coal miner for approximately 24 years. He completed this journey in life on March 3, 2024, at 69 years of age.
Lloyd was known for his love of singing. Throughout his life, he regularly visited churches and sang alongside his mother and sister in front of many congregations. He very much-loved spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed visiting his many relatives with whom he spent countless hours of laughter.
In his spare time, he could be found working in the garden, going on 4-wheeler trips, squirrel hunting, and fishing. Around home, he always had some type of home improvement project in progress. He had a passion for antique cars and owned a 1968 Camaro for many years. He also amassed a collection of many other types of antiques, including pop bottles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Asher and Darrell Melvin Asher.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of over 12 years, Lola Reed Asher; daughter, Jennifer Renee and Greg Verdell of Louisville; son, Lloyd Joseph Asher of Louisville; step-children, Jennifer, Ruth, and Michelle all of Rockcastle County; grandchildren, Erica Bowling, Lauren Bowling, and Keandre Tevis; great-grandchildren, Syrus Stone, Iyla Henderson, Ezreal Ladusaw; 5 step-grandchildren; 1 great-step-grandchild; sister, Della Asher; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Riverside Baptist Church at Beverly with Rev. Jimmy Ward, Rev. Paul Wayne Goodin, and Rev. Dustin Reed presiding. Music will be provided by John Lundy, Della Asher, and Eugene Asher. Burial will follow at the Asher Cemetery on KY 66 in Queensdale. Pallbearers will be Travis Bowling, Connor Hoskins, Darrell Asher, Scottie Collett, Tony Brock, Keandre Tevis, Greg Verdell, Johnny Houser, and John Lundy. Honorary pallbearer will be Eugene Asher.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday after 6:00 PM at the Riverside Baptist Church at Beverly.
