Levi Glen Brooks, 88, of Ewing, VA, passed away Feb. 15, 2012 in Middlesboro ARH. He was saved when he was 14 years old at Oak Grove Church and was baptized in the river. He was of the Baptist faith, serving as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a deeply religious man and was recognized as a best Sunday school teacher. He loved to work in his home wood shop and his garden. He always kept a few cattle. He was especially proud of heirloom tomatoes that he raised from seed. Levi and Virginia worked with the Thomas Walker Rescue Squad and Auxiliary. They made apple butter for years.

He was born on a farm in Claiborne County, TN, worked in the coal mines with his father a few years, served his country during WW II in the army in Europe. Upon his return he married Virginia Nelson and opened his woodworking shop in Cumberland Gap, TN, which he built into his own construction company. He built the original KFC in Tazewell, Cumberland and Middlesboro, the Gibson Station Church and many homes in the area in his 45 year career.

Preceded in death by parents, Charlie and Eliza Redmond Brooks; brothers, Willard, Delbert, and James 'Beb'; sisters, Margaret Brooks, Ethel Lee Stone, Carrie King and Bessie Brooks; infant son, Stanbra Charles.

Surviving wife of 66 years, Virginia Lee (Nelson) Brooks; daughters, Andra Poffenbarger & Wayne, Rio Vista, CA, Melissa Cook & Jim, Georgetown, KY; sister, Evelyn Fultz, Morristown, TN; grandchildren, Jason Harris & Twila Mason, FL, Andy Harris & Candace, Bulls Gap, TN, Alex Harris & Vanessa, Charleston, SC,; step-grandchildren, Robbie & Michael Cook; great grandchildren, Zach, Luke, Tucker, Miranda, Logan, Abby, Sam and Gus Harris.

Funeral services 7:00 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers, Alex, Jason, Andy Harris, Philip Brooks, Wade Wilson, Will Brock and Carl Bailey.
