Letcher Slusher, 100 of Pineville, KY, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born October 8, 1914 in Beverly, KY a son of William J. and Susie Farmer Slusher. He believed in the Baptist Faith. Letcher was a World War II Veteran and served in France. He had worked in the coal mines, operated a country store with Chester Smith, attended Cumberland College. He also worked several factory jobs and operated the water system at Pine Mountain State Park, where he retired. He greeted all with a smile, a witty comment or by speaking French, especially to a total stranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Mildred Faye Owens Slusher; brothers and sisters, infant, Mary Slusher, Sylvia Slusher Rohe, Sophia (John) Lewis (Oliver Smith), Mollie Slusher, Charlotte (Denver) Duff, Richard (Daisy) Slusher, Farmer (Verlie) Slusher and William (Ruth) Slusher; brother-in-law, LaVerne Owens; Nephews, Gary LaVerne Owens, Winston Slusher; Niece, Kathy Owens and great-nephew, Shawn Owens. Survivors include his son, Gary Duane Slusher; nieces and nephews, Chester (Marilyn) Smith (very special), David Duff, Darrell Duff, John Lewis, Willie John Baker, Jacobe (Carol) Rohe, Jr. Steven C. Slusher, Thomas K. (Cindy) Slusher, William J. Slusher, Cheryl Silvery-Slusher, William K. (Mary Ann) Slusher, Mertie Owens, Sylvia (Alvie) Fuson, Tammy Owens, Geraldine Owens, Delmur Owens; great-nieces and nephews, Shiela Smith, Terry (Chelsea) Smith, Dewayne (Melissa) Wilder, Ricky (Theresa) Smith, Dylan Slusher, Jamie Owens and Benjamin Fuson; great-great-niece, Anna Belle Smith; Special friends, Veerla, Kathleen, Rebecca, Tn., Ellen, Ilse, Maryke, Bart, Jessy, Cornelis and others, Belgium; and other relatives and friends, medical professionals and neighbors.. Services will be 1:00 PM Friday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Terry Smith. Burial will be in the Slusher Cemetery at Beverly. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Fuson, Brent Engle, Doug Roper, Glen Hobbs and Len Hobbs. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11 AM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to be serving the Slusher family.
