Leonard Junior Smith, 65, of Arjay, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born at Rella in Arjay, KY on April 7, 1951 a son of the late Leonard Charles and Millie Jane Potter Smith. He had been a coal miner and had served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Boyd Lee Smith, Donald Ed Smith and Luther Dean Smith, sister, Mollie Smith Bentley and sister-in-law, Christine Smith. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Linda Lewis Smith; children, Leonard Charles and wife, Jessica Smith, Ann and husband, Scott Lawson; Millie Jane and husband, Jerry Brandenburg; grandchildren, Ashley, Amber and Alexus Lawson, Blake Brandenburg, Spencer, Tyler, Mary and Sam; brothers and sisters, John Smith and wife, Reba, Berry Smith and wife, Barbara, Bettie Smith Kangas and husband, Harvey, Hazel Smith Keller and husband, Paul, Shirley 'Ditty' Smith Salata and husband, Jeff (niece raised as his sister); brothers-in-law, Leon Lewis, Bryan Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Tim Junior Lewis and Joe Bentley, special sister-in-law, Sheila Lewis, sisters-in-law, Haroldene Smith, Betty Smith (wife of Donald Ed) and Betty Smith (wife of Boyd) and he had so many too special to name nieces and nephews that were more his age and they were more like brothers and sisters to him and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Wagner. Music will be by special friends. Burial will be in the Brummett Cemetery with military honors by the Harlan Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jared Smith, Luke Junior Smith, Ronnie Smith, Scott Bentley, Corey Morgan, Mike Potter, Gary Bailey and Scott Smith. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6until 9 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Pineville, which is honored to serve the Smith Family.
