Lenuel Ray Turner, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born October 20, 1930 in Pineville, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Shirley Turner Moore, (Jeff T. Moore, stepfather) and Jess Jackson. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and attended regularly until illness prohibited him from doing so. He served as a trustee, church clerk and thoroughly enjoyed singing in the church choir and with the Gospel Harmonizers Quartet. He loved the mountains, his family and his God. Upon graduation from Rollin Hayes High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps, Platoon 64 and proudly served his country as a military policemen and corporal. After completing his tour of duty in the Marine Corps, he was employed by the Pineville Community Hospital. He dedicated 23 years of his life to exemplary patient care as an orderly at the hospital. He trained and worked with many of the health care professionals that cared for him in his later years. He was an avid supporter of the Democratic Party and worked many years in the political arena with Dr. David Asher and others. He served on the board of Bell Whitney Community Action Council. In addition to his parents and stepfather he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hattie and Bart Turner, his wife Dorothy Faulkner Turner, a grandchild, Kristen Caldwell; and four uncles, Bill and Ed Hitson and Charles and Errol Turner. He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy three daughters; Dr. Lynn Turner (Michael) Smith; Diane Turner Johnson, both of Lexington, KY and Rebecca Turner (Jack) Caldwell, Bledsoe, KY; two sons, Steven Len (Antionette) Turner, Pineville, KY and Charles (Regina) Sweatt, Lima, OH; one sister, Louise (Roger) Davis, Dayton, OH; nine grandchildren, Penny Smith, Lexington, KY; April Smith, Atlanta, GA; Erica Turner and Joshua Turner, Lexington, KY; Annie Napier Turner, Van Wert, OH, Charles Sweatt, Jr., Lima, OH; Genesia Grubbs, Alex Turner, Jacob Caldwell, Pineville, KY; three great-granddaughters, Candace Smith, Maya Smith, Lexington, KY and Madison Asher, Pineville, KY; one step granddaughter, Jack Lynn Caldwell; three aunts, Maxine (Gordon) Fletcher, Mitchellville, MD; Pauline Corbin, Temple Hill MD, and Roberta Brown, Pineville, KY; a host of nieces, nephews (three special nephews, Gene, Edward and Donald Turner) cousins; and special friends, Geneva Turner, Edward Pursiful, James Drake, Maurice Feimster, Denny Smith, Lester Bingham, Ray Frasure and Jimmy Wilder.
