Lee Roy West

Lee Roy West, age 71 of Cumberland Gap was born on May 10, 1945 and went to be with his grandson, parents, siblings and a host of others in their heavenly home with Jesus on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy F. West, mother Mossie Patterson West, his brothers W.C., Ronnie, Roger and infant sister, Dora Ann and his infant grandson, Daniel. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years, Nancy Russell West, his daughters Lee Ann (Darrell), and Nichole (Brian) and his wonderful grandchildren that he loved so much, Westlee and Courtney Walker, and Ciara, Brianna and Leevi Goins. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Nancy) West of Harrogate and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

He loved his Gap Creek Baptist Church family and had been a member there for 40 years. He was a strong proponent for Sunday school as a way of deepening your faith and enhancing your Christian growth. He was a Sunday school director for many years. He was an entrepreneur that sold Townecraft cookware for many years. He was very proud of the time he spent with the building project for the Cumberland Gap Tunnel. He also founded Heartland Real Estate in 1998 where he was the broker for many years until his recent semi-retirement. He loved to work in the yard on his fish pond and help build flower beds for Nancy to fill with her beautiful flowers. In his younger years he enjoyed roaming the woods in search of natural crooks to make into canes that he would create. He was a very talented woodworker and loved to work with his hands. He was such an encourager and attended every important event for his family. His encouraging words and funny sayings made him a charming, charismatic man. He never failed to compliment and appreciate you every time you were with him.

A celebration of his life will be held at Gap Creek Baptist Church in Arthur, Tennessee on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5-8 with funeral at 8. Officiating will be Rev. Terry England, Pastor Bill Boggs, and Westlee Walker. Music provided by Jane Cox, Charlotte Wilson, Tonya Wilson, Tarra Wilson, Kaydee West, and Amber West. The procession will leave Gap Creek at 10:30 a.m. and have graveside service at 11 a.m. at Hooper Cemetery in Cumberland Gap on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Pallbearers: Allen Russell, Todd West, Kendal West, Josh Russell, Jack West, and Tom West. Honorary Pallbearers: Deacons and Brotherhood of Gap Creek Baptist Church, John Hoskins, Roy McNew, and Melvin Welch.
