Lee Hobbs, Jr., 87 of Pineville died on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Pineville Community Hospital. Lee was born in Pineville on February 19, 1923 and was the son of the late Rose and Noah Hobbs. Lee was a 1940 graduate of Bell County High School where he was a member of the marching band. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Navy. He also served his country during the Korean War and received Honorable Discharges from the Navy for both campaigns. After his military duties Lee enrolled at Clevenger Business College in Sumter, S.C. and graduated with high honors. After graduation from Clevenger Business College he went into the Insurance business. Many years later Lee worked for Chevrolet, Fisher Body Division in Tecumseh, MI and General Motors at Norwood, OH. After working in the automobile factories Lee worked and retired as manager of the Pineville Community Hospital Gift Shop. Lee Hobbs truly believed in God and was a born again Christian and was a member of Laurel Hill Pentecostal Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren and Oliver Hobbs; sisters, Cleo Hobbs, Fair Bates and Vera Anderson; grandson, Jeffery Keith Shirley and great-granddaughter, Savannah Valen Shirley. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sarah Stewart Hobbs; daughters, Sharon (Grayson) Shirley of Pineville, and Tammy (David) Cox of Middlesboro; sons, Michael (Karen) Hobbs of Lexington, Lin (Kim) Hobbs of Middlesboro, Glen (Amy) Hobbs of Pineville; six grandsons, Randy (Sheila) Shirley of Matthews, N.C., Darren (Audrey) Shirley of Sumter, S.C., Jacob McGeorge of Pineville, Shane Hobbs of Lexington, Lee Cox and Christopher Hobbs both of Middlesboro; granddaughter-in-law, Mary Shirley of Sumter, S.C.; granddaughters, Courtney (Kevin) Pinkston of Lexington, Lindsey Hobbs and Sara Cox both of Middlesboro. Other family members included four great-granddaughters, five great-great-granddaughters, four great-granddaughters-in-law, eight great-grandsons, five great-great-grandsons and one great-grandson-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
