Kenneth "Kenny" Shell

May 12, 1954 — December 6, 2021

Kenneth “Kenny” Shell, 67 of Tacky Town, peacefully went to his heavenly home on Monday, December 6, 2021. The earth was gifted with Kenny on May 12, 1954 when he was born to the late Cuba Sergant Shell. Kenny was born with Down Syndrome in a time when it wasn’t understood. Despite all the obstacles his life handed him, he was very smart and learned so quickly. Kenny loved to sew, play cards, watch wrestling, attend church, and play his guitar and sing. Having Down Syndrome never held him back and his family loved, supported, and cherished him. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by brothers, Jesse Shell of Corbin, KY, Adrian Shell of Tacky Town, KY, and Ike Shell, (Infant); sisters, June Shell, of Harlan, KY, Ruth Shell Smith, of Florida, Daisy Shell McLeory, of Texas, and Florene Shell of KY; also, a brother-in-law, Olan Whitehead, who took him in as his own. Kenny is survived by his sister, that was his caregiver for many years and was like a mother to him, Hattie Shell Whitehead, of Tacky Town; sisters, Ruby Shell Dunn of Harrogate, TN, Viola Shell Middleton, of Harlan, KY, and Billy Sue Shell Barton, of Bradford Town, KY; his niece who had been one of his care givers, Whitney Caldwell and husband, Clifton Caldwell of Bledsoe, KY; nieces, Jennie Helton and husband Dale of Helton, KY, Shana Keck and husband, Tim of Sharps Chapel, TN; Katlin ”Katie” Brock, of Tacky Town, KY, Kortney “Regan” Whitaker and husband, Jake of Harlan, KY, Joshua Helton of Helton, KY, and Presley Helton of Ferndale. He is also survived by his little dog whom he loved “Pebbles”. He had a host of nieces and nephews, and friends who also mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville, KY on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM with the Reverends Paul Bailey, Clifton Caldwell, and David Dunn officiating. Music will be provided by Whitney Caldwell and Rachel Grubbs. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. A burial service will follow immediately after the funeral at the Corn Creek Cemetery in Woodbine, KY. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility for their outstanding care of Kenny while he was with them. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Shell Family.
