CUMBERLAND GAP, Tenn. - Dr. K.D. Taylor passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008, at his home, surrounded by family and friends.

Born Sept. 24, 1918, in Harlan County, Ky., he was the son of the late James Bert and Verna Taylor of Cumberland, Ky. He had been a faithful member of First Christian Church of Middlesboro for over 60 years. Dr. Taylor established a chiropratic practice in 1941, and retired from that practice in 1982.

A World War II veteran, he served as a corpman in the U.S. Navy.

A beloved member of the Tri-state community for 67 years, he was a civic leader and held various offices. He served on the Claiborne County Commission, and was influential in establishing new schools in Harrogate and Tazewell, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Taylor; a son, Dr. Kelly D. Taylor II; and a brother, Bob Taylor.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Sears, Knoxville, Tenn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James and Linda Taylor, Cumberland Gap, and Drs. Larry and Sheryl Taylor, Wytheville, Va.; daughter-in-law, Linda Taylor, Pennington Gap, Va.; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernell Saylor, Harlan, Ky., and Estelle Trammell, Louisville, Ky.; brother and sister-in-law, Hershel and Jean Taylor, Lexington, Ky.; and sisters-in-law, Sarah Taylor, Louisville, Ky., and Evelyn Dygert, Columbia City, Ind.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21, at 8 p.m. at Reece Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Stephen Earle presiding. Music will be by Larry and Karen Greene Blondell.

Burial will be Sunday, June 22, at 2:30 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Friends and family will meet at First Christian Church, Middlesboro, at 2 p.m. Sunday to process to the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home & Valley Chapel, Harrogate.
