Judith Nita “Judy” Smith, 83 of Pineville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a short but valiant battle with cancer on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Throughout she maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of love and happiness. She was born in Buchanan, Virginia on March 8, 1942, the daughter of Clarence Ray and Virginia Mae Arnold Moore.
Judy was a 1971 graduate of Harlan School of Nurse Anesthesia. She provided anesthesia at Pineville Community Hospital for 37 years. Judy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pineville. Above all she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, George Z. Smith; sons, Mark Whitney Smith and Stephen Bryan Smith; grandson, Eric Mathew Hendrickson; sister, Patricia Moore; and brother, Larry Eugene Moore.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Shannon Lea Smith and Jan and Bruce Hendrickson; grandchildren, Bradley Ryan Venable and Jeffery Broussard, Erica Katelyn and Stephen Hunter, Zachery “Zac” Hendrickson, and Aimee Brock; special great-grandchild who was the absolute love of her life and brought her so much joy, happiness, and laughter, Camden Luke Venable; great-grandchildren, Blakelee and Justin Barnett, Evan and Sarah Brock, and Craig Brock; great-great-grandchild, Weller Brooks Barnett; brother, Dan and Betty Jo Moore; sister, Carolyn Surber; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. V. Kumar and a very heart-felt message to Eva (Angel) Edwards, ARNP. Your support and kindness during this difficult time have been a source of comfort and strength. We are deeply grateful for your presence and thoughtful gestures, and your love has made this journey more bearable.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM at the Pineville Community Church, formerly the First United Methodist Church of Pineville, with Mr. Mark Sonnenmeier presiding. Music will be provided by Brian Robbins. Burial will follow at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Pallbearers will be Stephen Hunter, Zac Hendrickson, Justin Barnett, Craig Brock, Jeffery Broussard, and Tommy Black.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her honor to the Friends of the Bell County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 2534, Middlesboro, Kentucky 40965.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Pineville Community Church, formerly the First United Methodist Church of Pineville.
