Joseph E. Carpenter, Jr., 82 of Pineville, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin. He was born in Garnerville, New York on November 23, 1941, a son of the late Joseph E. Sr. and Josephine Novak Carpenter. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army 25th Infantry Division 5th Mechanized and served during Vietnam. Joseph was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Elks. He taught for over thirty years at the Minisink Valley High School in Slate Hill, New York.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Corlin Hollister Carpenter; daughters, Barbara Carpenter and Karen and James Arno; son, Joseph E. Carpenter, III; grandchildren, Madelyn Carpenter, Abigail Carpenter, James Joseph Arno and Reese Arno; sister, Barbara Ferguson; sister-in-law, Theda and Carl Wolfe; nieces and nephews; Roland Giroux, Lorraine Beamer, Holly Wolfe, Lena Wolfe, and Ned Wolfe; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pineville with Father Lobo presiding. Harlan Honor Guard will be presenting Military Services following the funeral. Burial will be at the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery Southeast in Hyden on Monday at 1:00 PM.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home in Pineville. A Rosary Service will begin at 1:00 PM then we will proceed to Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church.
