Johnny “John” Gregory, 62 of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 15, 1963, a son of the late Henry “HL” and Betty Lou Capps Gregory. John had been a contractor and construction worker.
John was a man whose heart, laughter, and love made this world a brighter place. John was a man who truly lived for his family. He leaves behind the love of his life, Jennifer, and their children – the people who were his greatest joy and his proudest accomplishment.
If you knew John, you knew how much he loved the little things that made life fun – cheering on the Vols every Saturday, spending time out on his side-by-side, or knocking down pins at the bowling alley. But more than anything, he loved the people around him. Whether it was family, friends, or someone he’d just met, John had a way of making everyone feel welcome, seen, and loved. He had the best heart of anyone you’d ever met – a true heart of gold.
John's laughter was contagious, the kind that could fill a room and lift your spirits no matter what kind of day you were having. And his smile – that big, genuine smile – could light up even the darkest day. John was strong in his faith, and that faith carried him through life with grace and strength. He loved deeply, gave generously, and lived with purpose. Though his time here feels far too short, John’s spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. His love will echo in the laughter of his children, in the stories we share, and in the memories we’ll hold close for the rest of our lives.
As we say goodbye today, we hold on the words of Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” We hold onto that promise, knowing that John is safe now – at peace, surrounded by love, and resting in the arms of the Lord.
“When you think of me, smile.
Remember the laughter and the love.
For though I am no longer where you are,
I will always be with you –
in your heart, and in your memories.”
John is survived by his children, Tiffany Gregory, Cody Gregory, Cory and Heather Gregory, Jonathan and Desiree Gregory, Stephanie Gregory, and Dutton Gregory; partner, Jennifer; stepchildren, Brooke, Hannah, Madison, and Conner; sixteen grandchildren; one grandchild on the way, Leilani Wood; siblings, Jill and Tracy Madewell, Henry “Hank” Gregory, Billy Ray Gregory, Jennifer Hamblin, and Melissa and David Phipps; special friends, Bobby Barnett and Hackle; host of family at Pizza Hut; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
