John Asher, age 84 of Speedwell, TN passed away Friday Feb. 18, 2012 in Knoxville TN after a short illness. Born June 7, 1927 Middlefork at Leslie Co. KY the son of the late James & Mellie Asher. He was the owner & founder of Appolo Fuels, Middlesboro, KY & Asher Farms, Speedwell, TN. He served in The U.S. Navy during WWII where he was deployed to Guam in The South Pacific. He was on The Briareus Ship & was a machinist 1st Class until the end of the war. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Millie Asher. Survived by: Sons: Gary Asher (Holly), Knoxville, TN, Larry Asher, Knoxville, TN, Johnny Asher (Jessica), Speedwell, TN. Stepson: Mark Firestone, Palm Beach, FL. Stepdaughter: Jayetta (Dennis) Borror, South Daytona, FL Sisters: Vestina Saylor, Straight Creek, KY, Dorthy Jarvis, Cumberland Gap, TN, Marie Depriest, Speedwell, TN. Brothers: Daniel Asher, Cumberland Gap, TN, The late James Jr. Asher, T.J. (Maxine) Asher, Cumberland Gap, TN. 5 Grandchildren: Shea McWilliams, Shelly Lewis, Jonathan Asher, Lindley Inez Asher, Johnny Haze Asher. 7 great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. Special friend and caregiver Josie Hickman. He was loved my many family and friends and will be sadly missed. Visitation is Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 - 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Reece Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 at 11:00 at the family cemetery, Ball Ridge, King Bend Road with David Gibson officiating. Pallbearers are: Dan Turner, Johnny Asher, Bradley Carroll, Andy Welch, Ed Pope, Benjamin Hickman.
